TIM DAVIS (T4 SETUP)
I will add also - I spent a few minutes Saturday looking over Aarons' T4 - and was totallly thrashed. You have to keep these cars in better states of maintenance - it makes a huge difference. Keeping the shocks fresh, the diff smooth and adjusted properly - not slipping on the track - proper ride height, downtravel, all the suspension moving freely and not binding, etc, etc. Those are the things that make a difference. One huge misconception is that the expert drivers are changing setups all the time - they aren't guys. The most tuned car in offroad racing is easily 1/10 2wd, and all the fast guys mess with is the diff adjustment, wheelbase, and maybe play with the rear shocks, up/down on the oil 2.5wt or so if the track conditions are extreme. 2wheel is wrenched on a little bit at the races because it is such a finesse class, and everyone gets them around the track a little differently. As far as truck and 4 wheel, most guys will on run them around the track once before the first qualifier at a national event. the BJ4/B44 setup is unchanged as far as shock oil/piston/springs/mounting locations/roll centers/ since hte BJ4 hit hte track at the 2004 ROAR Nationals. Those two cars have won 2 world championships, and every major race around the world, on a variety of track conditions - with essentially the same exactly basic setup. Cav in the dustbowl in Italy, Tebo in the Mud in Japan - indoor ROAR Nat's on slicks, Bar Codes at Hot Rod, etc, etc. |
